Doreen Heaton attended the Bath Academy of Art at Corsham from 1949-53, which at the time was at the fore front of modern thinking in terms of art education and trends. After extensive travels throughout Europe, she moved to Poland with her lover and teacher Peter Potworowski and returned to London after his death in 1962. Upon her return, Heaton had a one woman show at the Drian Gallery. In the introduction to the exhibition Halima Nalecz said: “her instinct as a painter leads to an almost childish honesty of expression. But it is the quality which makes her work valuable and beautiful for us.”
